Cat & Kitten Surrender & Rehoming

We're Here to Help

We understand that circumstances can change and that making the decision to surrender or rehome a pet is often difficult. Before surrendering your cat or kitten, we encourage you to explore the resources below and contact us to discuss your situation.

Before you surrender...

Many of the challenges pet owners face can be resolved with the right support and resources. Whether you're dealing with behavioral concerns, housing changes, financial hardship, allergies, or other life circumstances, we encourage you to explore all available options before surrendering your cat or kitten.

In many cases, rehoming your pet directly to a new family can be less stressful for the animal and allows you to play an active role in finding the right home.

We recommend:

🐾 Petfinder – A valuable resource for pet care information, behavior tips, and guidance that may help you keep your pet as an important member of your family.

🐾 Rehome by Adopt-a-Pet – A free service that guides pet owners through the rehoming process. You can create a profile for your pet, share photos and information, review adopter applications, communicate with potential adopters, and complete a safe transfer of ownership.

Direct rehoming allows pets to move from one loving home to another without entering a shelter environment, reducing stress and helping them transition more smoothly.

If you're unsure which option is best for your situation, please contact us. Our team is happy to discuss your circumstances and help you explore available resources.

Surrendering Your Cat or Kitten

Animal Outreach accepts owner-surrendered cats and kittens as space and resources allow. Because we are limited in the number of animals we can safely house and care for, surrender appointments may not always be immediately available. In some cases, you may be placed on a waitlist and contacted when space becomes available.

Before bringing a cat or kitten to our shelter, please contact us to discuss current availability and surrender options.

At the time of surrender, you will be asked to complete and sign surrender paperwork confirming that you are the owner (or authorized agent) and are transferring ownership of the animal to Animal Outreach.

Animal Outreach also requests a surrender donation to help offset the cost of veterinary care, food, housing, vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, and other services your cat or kitten will receive before being placed for adoption. We understand that every situation is different and encourage you to speak with our team if you have concerns.

Our goal is to provide every animal in our care with the medical treatment, attention, and time needed to find a loving new home.
